9 October 09:00US President Joe Biden has cancelled his planned “historic” visit to a meeting of the Ramstein contact group on Ukraine’s defence. The US President will stay home to fight the hurricanes that threaten the country. This was announced by White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre, Komersant Ukrainian reports.
Biden will stay at home to oversee preparations for Hurricane Milton and the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. As a result, he will not be able to travel to Germany and Angola, which were planned for the trip.
Biden’s participation in Ramstein was announced in October during the visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the United States. At the time, this upcoming visit was presented as a powerful diplomatic breakthrough, and there was a lot of speculation in the media on this topic. Zelenskyy hinted at “powerful decisions”, and the media wrote about Biden’s possible decision to start promoting Ukraine’s path to NATO or a joint decision to authorise deep strikes against Russia.

The Pentagon is now considering how to handle Biden’s decision to stay home. During a briefing by Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh, she was asked whether the option of postponing the “leadership Ramstein” to 17-18 October, when NATO ministers are due to meet, was being considered. The spokesperson replied that a final decision was being sought.
for the first time, the “Ramstein” is to be held at the level of heads of state, not defence ministers, as was usual. At this meeting, Zelenskyy plans to present the “Victory Plan” to his partners.
