Today, two Ukrainian tennis players played their matches in the third round (1/16) of the Australian Open tennis championships, the .
Marta Kostiuk won a strong-willed victory over Russian Elina Avanesyan, who played without the flag of her country, with a score of 2: 1 (2: 6, 6: 4, 6: 4).
And Lesia Tsurenko, unfortunately, was unable to counteract the world number two Arina Sabalenka of Belarus – 0-2 (0:6, 0:6).
Thus, Tsurenko left the tournament after the third round, and Marta Kostiuk will move on to meet another Russian player, Maria Timofeeva, in the round of 16. Given that Timofeeva is ranked 170th in the WTA world rankings and Kostiuk is 37th, there is every reason to hope that the Ukrainian tennis player will continue her winning streak.
Tomorrow, we will have matches of two more Ukrainian tennis players. Elina Svitolina will compete with Switzerland’s Victoria Golubych (No. 85), and Diana Yastremska will try again to beat a tennis player who is ranked much higher – American Emma Navaro (No. 26).
