ARMA uncovers assets of suspects in Mazepa case: they may be confiscated

The National Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) has traced the assets of suspects in the case of Ukrainian businessman Igor Mazepa, who is believed to be the organiser of a scheme to illegally seize the land of the Kyiv hydroelectric power station. During the search, the ARMA found

The ARMA forwarded the information received to the pre-trial investigation body in a timely manner and in full for further action. In particular, seizure of assets and their subsequent confiscation to the budget.
On 23 January, the Kyiv Court of Appeal partially upheld the appeal filed by Mazepa’s lawyers, reducing the bail from UAH 349 million to UAH 21 million and extending his detention until 27 February 2024.
Mazepa was released from the pre-trial detention centre after posting UAH 21 million bail.
Mazepa was detained by the State Bureau of Investigation on 18 January while crossing the Ukrainian-Polish border. The next day, the SBI confirmed his detention.
He is suspected of misappropriating land plots in the Kyiv region, which, according to the case file, were illegally privatised. According to the charges, he appropriated the land where the hydraulic structures of the Kyiv HPP are located to build the Goodlife Park luxury residential complex in the Vyshgorod district. The complex covers 40 hectares and includes a yacht club, a mini-hotel, a restaurant, a children’s park, sports grounds and a fitness centre.
According to the investigation, the criminal organisation headed by Mazepa included almost 20 defendants. Among them are well-known investors in the field of luxury housing construction, their assistants, lawyers, architects, land surveyors, other qualified specialists and representatives of state bodies.
