The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine is investigating the reasons for the increase in prices for chicken eggs, which began in October 2024. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the AMCU press service.

In just two weeks of November, prices for chicken eggs in Ukraine rose 1.5-1.7 times. In October, eggs of the popular C1 size cost 38-42 UAH per dozen in retail chains, and now their price has risen to 70-75 UAH.

The AMCU has already sent requests for information to companies operating in this market segment, including feed producers, poultry farms, and retailers.

The Antimonopoly Committee notes that it is the second time in two years that it has responded to the situation on the egg market. In October 2022, a study was conducted into the reasons for the rise in price of chicken eggs in retail chains, when the price rose sharply to UAH 70-80 per dozen.

At that time, information was collected and analyzed from market participants at each stage of the product’s circulation from the producer to the end consumer.

Already, the AMCU has noted that the rapid increase in chicken egg prices in October 2024 is similar to what happened in September-October 2022.

“After receiving responses from market participants and further analysis of all factors influencing the pricing behavior of companies at each of the links in the product turnover, final conclusions will be formed on the presence or absence of signs of violation of the legislation on the protection of economic competition in the actions of market participants,” the AMCU said in a statement.
