The State Customs Service of Ukraine has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Alliance Against Counterfeit Alcohol. This was reported by the State Customs Service, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

This Alliance unites two-thirds of the world’s leading producers of spirits, including: Diageo (Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff), Pernod Ricard (Chivas Regal, Absolut), Brown-Forman (Jack Daniel’s, Finland) and others.

The Alliance Against Counterfeit Alcohol is active in more than 20 developed economies, cooperating with governments, customs administrations and law enforcement agencies to combat the illegal production and trafficking of spirits and to implement high standards of control at the customs border.

Accordingly, following the signing of the Memorandum with the Alliance, the capabilities of the State Customs Service of Ukraine in the fight against counterfeiting are expanding. For example, joint initiatives include the introduction of modern methods of checking alcohol when it is transported across the customs border of Ukraine, training customs officials in new and up-to-date methods of identifying signs of intellectual property rights infringement.

Another partnership in intellectual property protection

The State Customs Service of Ukraine has also joined forces with the international association REACT to combat counterfeit goods. REACT is an international organization that operates in 128 countries and unites more than 300 companies that hold rights. Its main mission is to protect intellectual property, combat counterfeit products and support legitimate business.

REACT actively cooperates with the EU, the US, the UK, Canada, Japan and other countries that have introduced strict standards for controlling the international goods market.

By strengthening cooperation, Ukrainian customs officers will receive additional sources to detect and identify counterfeit goods, prevent their movement across the customs border, and thus Ukraine will gradually integrate into the pan-European institutional system of protection of the rights of owners of intellectual property rights.
