4 thousand Ukrainians have won Green Card-2025: how to apply for the next one and not to miss out

The US Department of State has announced the results of the Diversity Visa (DV) lottery for 2025. Ukraine was among the top ten countries with the largest number of selected participants – 4,002 Ukrainians got a chance to emigrate to the United States, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the results of the Green Card-2025 lottery, published on May 3, 2025, 131,060 people were selected out of more than 20 million applicants worldwide. Although not everyone will be granted visas – the annual quota is limited to 55,000 – this particular selection is the first step towards legal immigration to the United States.
Ukraine is ninth in the world
Compared to previous years, Ukraine’s rate has slightly decreased (there were 5,514 selectees in DV-2024), but 4,002 winners is still a very high result. Ukraine consistently ranks first among European countries.

How to check your status
You can check your results until September 30, 2025 on the official website dvprogram.state.gov.
To do this, you need to:
- Go to the website → click “Check status”.
- Enter the Confirmation Number received after registration.
- Enter your last name in Latin and year of birth.
- Click “Submit”.
Please note: The US does not send letters or emails to the winners. All verification takes place only through the official website. Messages about “winning” in the mail or on social media are almost always fraudulent.
What lawyers say
Migration consultants emphasize that winning the lottery is only the first stage. Those selected have to prepare a package of documents on their own, undergo an interview at the embassy and a medical examination. Due to the war in Ukraine, some of the winners applied from abroad, which may affect the logistics of the procedure.
How many visas will be issued?
Despite more than 130,000 applicants, not everyone will receive a real immigration visa: the annual quota is about 55,000.
The system is designed in such a way that some of the winners do not pass the test, some refuse, some do not have time to complete the documents, so they choose “with a margin”. If you are on the list, don’t hesitate.
When is the next lottery?
Registration for DV-2026 has already ended in the fall of 2024.
The next call for applications – DV-2027 – is expected to open in October 2025 and will last until around the beginning of November. The dates are announced in advance on travel.state.gov.

How to apply for a Green Card (Diversity Visa)
Who can apply
- Citizens of Ukraine are eligible.
- Must have been born in a country admitted to the program (sometimes it is allowed to apply through the country of birth of parents or spouse).
- You must either:
- secondary education (high school diploma),
- or 2 years of work experience within the last 5 years in a profession requiring at least 2 years of education/training.
What you need to prepare
- Avalid passport – although the requirement has been temporarily canceled, it is better to have one (check at the time of registration).
- A new digital photo (no older than 6 months) that meets the specification:
- white background
- face without glasses;
- size – 600×600 pixels.
- Personal data:
- Full name (in Latin),
- date and place of birth,
- marital status,
- number of children (under 21, single),
- education,
- address and contact information.
What steps to take
- Go to the official website: dvprogram.state.gov
⚠️ No intermediaries! Only this site is official. - During the registration period (expected October-November 2025), click “Begin Entry“.
- Fill out the application form in English. Attention: Only one application form per person. Submitting more than one will result in disqualification.
- After submission, save the confirmation number – this is the only way to find out the result in May 2026.
The most common mistakes
- The photo does not meet the requirements (using an old one, from a phone, edited).
- Duplicate application forms (submission both from yourself and from the “company”).
- Incorrect information about marital status or children.
- Forgot to save the confirmation number.
Participation in the lottery is free. All websites that ask for money “for submission”, “for verification”, or “for registration” are unofficial. They have nothing to do with the U.S. Department of State.
