$21 thousand for crossing the border: Lviv region exposes a scheme to smuggle fugitives to Poland

Another channel for smuggling men of military age across the border was blocked in Lviv region. This was reported by the press service of the Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
“Under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region, a 30-year-old native of Stryi district was served a notice of suspicion of organizing the illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine (Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),” the statement said.
The suspect searched for men who did not have the right to leave Ukraine freely during the war, and for 21 thousand US dollars arranged a transfer to Poland through one of the checkpoints in Lviv region.
He ensured that information about them was entered into the Shlyakh electronic database as international transportation drivers. Thus, on the basis of fictitious documents, the fugitives could freely enter the European Union and stay there.




The law enforcement documented the criminal activity of the smuggler, and he was detained while receiving USD 15 thousand in advance.
Currently, he has been detained in custody with the right to be released on bail in excess of UAH 150,000. His connection with similar offenses is also being checked, and the full range of persons allegedly involved in the scheme is being established.
The man faces up to 9 years in prison with a three-year disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities and confiscation of property.
