Human Rights Day
on December 10 every year, humanity celebrates an international event – Human Rights Day.
It was on this day in 1948 that the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document that proclaimed the inalienable rights of every person, regardless of their race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
Human Rights Day was officially proclaimed in 1950 at the initiative of the United Nations.
International Day for the Protection of Animal Rights
Every year on the same day as Human Rights Day – December 10 – the world community celebrates Animal Rights Day.
The date proposed by the UN General Assembly in 1998 was not chosen by chance – it emphasizes that animals have the same rights to life and freedom as humans.
This day unites all those who stand up for animals and aims to draw humanity’s attention to moral and ethical issues related to animals.
Nobel Day
Every year on December 10, the world celebrates Nobel Day.
The date is dedicated to the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, a prominent inventor, chemist, engineer, and writer. His most famous invention was dynamite.
He bequeathed his entire inheritance of 31.5 million Swedish kronor (in the form of securities, the income from which had to be distributed equally each year) to fund an international prize for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology, medicine, peace, economics, and literature. Achievements in mathematics were not considered important by Nobel, as he perceived mathematics as a less useful science, and with its help, in his opinion, it is possible to make much less useful discoveries for humanity.
Today, Swedish organizations are responsible for awarding Nobel Prizes in all fields of science and culture. The exception is the Nobel Peace Prize, which is awarded by the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
